Teresa Hamilton, FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, Giving the Basics

Teresa founded Giving the Basics to strengthen the KC Metro and help children and families live with hope, health and dignity. Since it was established in 2011, Giving the Basics has become a hub for basic human dignity products like soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, laundry detergent and feminine hygiene products; pantries that can distribute them; and Kansas City area businesses who can supply goods and volunteers.

Teresa is also Co-Owner of Bob Hamilton Plumbing Heating A/C and Rooter. She attended Rockhurst University, where she studied finance and communications.

1.)  Work strategically to connect with companies and individuals in your community. Volunteers will propel your organization forward, and can be some of your best grassroots advocates.

2.) Set your team up for success by defining roles and giving them access to key resources.

3.) Your mission is your organization’s heart. We struck a nerve in Kansas City by shining a light on a critical problem: lack of access to hygiene products. Tell your story and keep the mission at the forefront.
