Marketing & Communications Takeaways from the VFW Day of Service Inaugural Event

The VFW kicked off a month of veteran-led community service events with VFW Day of Service on May 7. M&C continues to manage the marketing and promotion of Day of Service and we have some great insights you can put to use for your organization.

  • Make it Meaningful. Ask your donors and members what they value most about being involved with your organization — and deliver it. It doesn’t have to be complicated. There’s no better way to show your constituents that you asked, listened and made it happen.

  • Give Them the Tools.  We didn’t just announce #StillServing and Day of Service then expect members and VFW Posts to take the wheel. From the outset, we developed strong resources, communication networks and promotional support for leaders and volunteers. They’re easy to personalize and easy to access online.

  • Make it Known. Increasing volunteerism and creating exciting ways for veterans to continue their commitment to service is fantastic in and of itself. But that on its own is not going to recruit new members, recharge the narrative of your organization or inspire philanthropy. Have a plan to promote your good work. Think of how you can use these stories across channels and departments.
