KMBC News Anchor and Reporter, Haley Harrison tells us what the media is looking for in your nonprofit news pitches.

Here are some of the main things TV journalists are looking for when considering coverage of a story:

  1. What are the visuals? Will there be good video to show my audience? Stories with action are best. Avoid stories with “BOPSA” (a Bunch of People Sitting/Standing Around).

  2. Is it timely? Does it relate to a subject that’s been in the news recently? Is it relevant?

  3. Will there be good sound? Who will be available to interview? Will what they say be compelling or interesting?
