No-Cost Incentives for Monthly Donors

by | Dec 10, 2020

M&C has been suggesting simple, accessible ways for nonprofits to incentivize and reward monthly donors for quite a while. It was great to hear Erica Waasdorp share her thoughts on ways to recognize this important group of supporters during a recent AFPKC session—and even better to hear that it should be simple and no (or low) cost.

Here’s a quick list of ideas your organization can use right now:

  • Access to additional/special content—a branded email with a quick, feel-good update goes a long way

  • Quarterly chats/calls/Zooms with leadership—set a quick agenda and request questions beforehand; no more than a half-hour is great

  • Focus/advisory groups—give your donors a chance to get to know one another and connect; this ups the engagement factor considerably

  • Surveys/Q&As about relevant issues—everyone loves to share their opinion; even better if you can include their input in newsletters, annual reports or blogs

  • Quarterly updates/progress reports—again, a simple, branded communication that emphasizes their connection and relationship to your organization can be so meaningful; even better if you include photos and notes of thanks from those who benefit from their monthly support
